Inspired by biblical art around the 900ad +, Drawing first a image then scanning in the image allows me to edit the image and bring it to life. Using bold colours for the images really brings out the image. After I add glows to make the colours more defined, light on the armour of the warriors. Also a glow to the torch with a big radius makes the image glow. I did this using photoshop.
For this image I wanted a lot of detail and shading. I wanted to glow the yellow and make it look like gold. I needed to show where the light was showing so it did not look so 2D. Playing with the opacity allowed me to control the amount of light added to one side of the image.
I really do enjoy doing this style of imagery. The colours, the detail I really do worship. It is simple image but it is hard in a sense of time and skill required to understand the concepts of this type of medieval art work.
